Austin Nwaulune, the Director of Spectrum Administration at Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed that the satellite capacity is contributing only 0.2% to Nigeria’s internet connectivity, according to Space in Africa.
Nwaulune was speaking on a panel at the virtual Nigeria Com (2020), an annual event for accelerating Nigeria’s digital economy.
The panel session was tagged “How Can Satellite Unlock Rural Connectivity and Socioeconomic Equality in Nigeria”, and was moderated by Temidayo Oniosun, the MD of Space in Africa.
Dr Abimbola Alale, the CEO of Nigcomsat and Hendrick Van Der Berg, Senior Sales Director at Intelsat were also part of the panel.
On NCC working towards ensuring adequate connection in Nigeria, Nwaulune said the country has 42GB of landed satellite capacity and only 8GB are utilised.
