Optical Zonu’s new RF analogue transmission platform

Optical Zonu Corporation (OZC), a supplier of modules for analogue and digital signal transmission over optical fibre [CATV, RF over Fibre Optics, Sonet/SDH, Gigabit Ethernet and Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing – CWDM], has launched the J-Series modular EIA 310D Standard 19-inch 1U rack-mounted system which is reportedly capable of transporting any RF signal within the 10KHz to 7 GHz range over fibre optic cable.
With up to ten slots available, each slot can be populated with eight individual OZ101 modules (each either a Tx or Rx), and the system may hold up to 64 RF over Fibre (RFoF) interchangeable and hot-swappable OZ101 modules, as well as, two hot swappable power supplies.  The J-Series also accommodates multiples of other high performance, broadband, fibre optic transceivers, transmitters and receivers.  A cooled DFB Laser module, GbE switch (both SFP and RJ-45), CWDM built in for multichannel support over single fibre and SNMP monitoring are but a few examples.  The J-Chassis provides flexibility, scalability, and functionality to help construct multi-task, RFoF and Digital subsystems.

Capable of delivering 10 KHz to 7 GHz Bandwidth, the J-Series is the ideal RF transmission gear for many of today’s highest performance communications applications which require fibre optic cable.  These include Wi-Max/4G LTE, Cellular Backhaul, Remote Antenna Location, Satcom, In-Building Solutions, GPS Distribution and Timing Delay, among others.  A built-in Front Fibre Management Bar makes for a tidy, well kept installation and the Medical Grade High Efficiency Universal Hot Swappable Power Supplies assure that the system stays powered in the unlikely event of a single power supply failure.  For a fully populated chassis to operate in an uncontrolled environment two optional fans may be installed per each set of five transmission modules.  The double-depth 10-Slot version has four fans and the single-depth 5-slot version has two fans. The fans are operated so to maintain a customer-set maximum temperature.  The J-Series MTTF exceeds ten years at an ambient operating temperature of +50°C.

“Complex alarm functions are available for each transmitter and receiver via a micro USB connector in both the front and rear panels of the J-Chassis”, explained Soyola Baasan, director of sales and product line management for the RFoF Product Line. “Front panel LED indicators provide visual status of each of the inserted modules’ operation and cumulative link status may be read with granularity down to individual parameters (e.g. received power, temperature, etc.). The USB connectivity enables up to 128 chassis, each with ten modules incorporating up to eight individual Tx or Rx, all of which may be monitored via a single USB computer interface.”

Pricing for a basic chassis with single power supply and single slot containing eight J-101 Modules begins under $6,000.  Delivery is typically within six weeks ARO, depending upon configuration.
