Sherif Sedky has been reappointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Space Agency, now holding the rank of Minister, according to a presidential decree.
Sherif Sedky initially assumed his post on August 19, 2022, succeeding Dr. Mohamed Al-Qousi. Before this, Sedky had notable roles such as director of the Yousef Jameel Science and Technology Centre and the office of Provost at the American University in Cairo. He also held the position of Executive President at Zewail City of Science and Technology, a nonprofit educational institution.
With a wealth of experience spanning more than 30 years across international institutions in the Middle East, Europe, and the United States, Dr Sedky brings a substantial background to his leadership.
The Egyptian Space Agency, a government entity, pursues key objectives, including the acquisition of space and satellite technology for the nation. In 2022, the agency achieved the launch of four satellites into space, serving scientific research purposes.
Throughout his previous year as the CEO of EgSA, Sherif Sedky oversaw the launch of the Horus-1 & 2 satellites, forged agreements with foreign partners, and paved the way for the imminent launch of the MisrSat-2.
