Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) is hosting the 71st meeting of the International Satellite Search and Rescue Programme (October 15 to 24). The programme is being chaired by Henrik Smith, the current chairman of the COSPAS-SARSAT Programme Council; representatives from 45 countries and organisations, in addition to a number of government agencies such as the General Directorate of Border Guard, the Royal Saudi Air Force, the National Center for Security Operations, the Saudi Space Agency, and the Communications, Space and Technology Commission.
Saudi Arabia was one of the first countries in the region to join the programme. By hosting the meeting, the Kingdom is showcasing its active role in the air transport sector and in satellite search and rescue.
The meeting will discuss several topics, including operational and technical reports related to space and ground sector and emergency locator devices.
GACA will shed light on the Saudi Search and Rescue Centre which is one of the first centres in the region, and operates through the satellite system of the International Search and Rescue by Satellite Program (COSPAS-SARSAT).
