Starlink puts planned price hike on hold

The suspension follows backlash and regulatory scrutiny the company faced over the price adjustment implemented on October 1, 2024.

Starlink has temporarily suspended plans to increase its monthly subscription fees for Nigerian users. The suspension follows backlash and regulatory scrutiny the company faced over the price adjustment implemented on October 1, 2024. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said that the company’s unilateral decision to raise subscription fees in Nigeria contravened Sections 108 and 111 of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003, which mandate regulatory oversight on tariff adjustments to protect consumers and maintain market stability.

Starlink suspended the price increase on October 24 and issued a statement saying that customers who were charged the increased amount would receive a one-time credit to cover the difference.
