ETL Systems provides RF equipment for Timeline Television’s first UHD production truck

ETL Systems has helped Timeline Television build its first UHD production/uplink truck – designated “RF1” – for use with major UK broadcasters.

Timeline Television decided to build the RF1 as a six-camera UHD production truck that is also able to operate as a communications vehicle, with two powerful independent transmission paths with dual chain redundancy.

Timeline Television enlisted ETL engineers to provide components to handle the routing of various L-Band signals around the transmission paths. ETL supplied L-Band splitters and combiners for the RF tray, which allowed it to correctly route all signals around the two dishes easily.

“We are trusted by some of the biggest brands in the UK and international television market, and so to help build this vehicle we could only use an RF provider with high expertise, experience and custom solutions like the ETL RF components team,” said Lee Wright, Senior Broadcast Engineer at Timeline Television.

“It’s been a very pleasant experience working with ETL Systems and I am sure it won’t be too long before we work with ETL again.”

ETL also adapted the order throughout the process as Timeline Television changed orders and designs to better suit the direction of the project. The vehicle – which is now fully operational – has been busy since operating throughout the UK.

“Taking a consultative approach, we were able to offer Timeline Television a tailored solution from ETL’s wide components product range, ensuring it was a suitable solution for the UHD production truck and delivered on time to meet its schedule,” said Dominic Overton, Components Sales Manager at ETL Systems.

“It was a great experience working with Timeline Television and we are delighted that the project was a great success.”
