The 2012 UAE-Korean Knowledge Sharing Seminar held recently at the Park Rotana Hotel reaffirmed the commitment of the UAE and South Korea to intensify its collaboration in the information and communications technology (ICT) field to accelerate mutual growth.
Organised by the Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre (ADSIC), the government entity in charge of the emirate’s IT agenda in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, the annual seminar follows up on a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the heads of the Korea Development Institute (KDI) and ADSIC. Under the terms of the memorandum enacted during South Korean President Lee Myung-bak’s state visit to the UAE in late 2009, KDI and ADSIC will periodically share expertise and experiences in key ICT areas such as geographic information systems.
This year’s two-day seminar covered Spatial Data Infrastructure and its synergy with government-wide enterprise applications including the electronic no-objection-certificate and land information management
This year’s two-day seminar covered Spatial Data Infrastructure and its synergy with government-wide enterprise applications including the electronic no-objection-certificate and land information management. Information security policies, standards and guidelines were extensively discussed as well. Over 90 representatives from local, federal and semi-government organisations shared best practices and technology investment and human capital development strategies for ICT and Geographic Information Systems deployments. Open forums between the guest speakers and the Korean and Emirati delegates were conducted after each session.
The government and industry leaders and ICT experts attending the event, included members of ADSIC’s Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure (AD-SDI) programme, an initiative launched in 2007 to facilitate the exchange of geospatial information among government entities, businesses and other stakeholders.
“South Korea has earned global respect as a top developer and enabler of cutting-edge technologies. For its part, the UAE has been focusing on transforming itself into a genuine knowledge-based society and maintaining its status as an innovation-driven Arab state. By sharing our experiences in the ICT domain through platforms such as this seminar, the UAE and Korea can better define and harness the role of technology in advancing development and fostering bilateral cooperation,” said H.E. Rashed Lahej Al Mansouri, director Gengral, Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre.
