The new maritime satellite broadband VSAT product by Mitsubishi Electric reportedly completed a series of tests to secure Type Approvals from the Global VSAT Forum (GVF.)
The Mitsubishi VSAT product employs a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) with a 1.2-metre satellite antenna specifically designed for maritime operations. It reportedly provided high-quality Ku-band transmissions and ensured, the company claims, a high standard of service during the GVF’s tests.
According to a statement by GVF Secretary General David Hartshorn, the maritime broadband marketplace will significantly benefit from the advancements introduced by Mitsubishi Electric’s new Ku-band VSAT product.
The international satellite industry established the GVF Product Quality Assurance Framework in order to enhance the design and performance of Earth station technology. The GVF based its tests on the satellite-operator specifications used by satellite manufacturers Eutelsat and Intelsat
Global and regional satellite operators reportedly rely upon GVF’s testing through the latter’s Mutual Recognition Arrangement Working Group (MRA-WG.) A mutually-recognised test framework and a network of testing entities authorised by the satellite industry served to provide Earth station type-approvals testing services on behalf of GVF and its client VSAT manufacturer.
