Beam Communications Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of World Reach Limited celebrates its 10th anniversary. Beam was founded 2002 in Melbourne reportedly following a request by Telstra and Iridium to design and manufacture a satellite terminal for the Australian market using the Iridium Satellite Constellation that would emulate a typical PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) Telstra home line service over satellite.
With Iridium’s global presence and focus in the maritime market, Beam packaged the same terminal with accessories that made it, the company claims, the ideal solution for the Iridium crew and captain calling services.
Beam expanded its product portfolio to include the development of in-vehicle docking solutions and data modems. Driven by customers needs for specific applications, Beam, according to the official release, continued to focus on the research and development of various product initiatives in the coming years.

Today we develop and manufacture satellite communications solutions for the world’s leading satellite network providers, Iridium and Inmarsat. Beam’s target markets include maritime, transport, mining, construction, government, emergency services and Universal Service Obligations. Some examples are anti-piracy solutions for secure communication onboard commercial and leisure vessels, portable specialised “Crisis Kits” for airlines, as well as miniature all-in-one data modems for remote telemetry and tracking applications.
