The African Space Leadership Conference (ASLC), the eighth edition of which concluded on December 4, will be held on a biennial basis, according to a consensus reached by the participants of the conference, as reported by Space in Africa.
The conference, which was held at the UN-ECA Hall, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was themed, Prospects and Challenges of African Space Development, and emphasised on the role of youth in policy-making, women participation in the industry and governance.
Resolutions made at the conference included a name change to reflect the growing scope in the African space arena. An interim constitution was also proposed along with the proposal to establish an ASLC Women Forum.
It was also decided that the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) will host the 9th ASLC in Durban, in October 2021. The conference first took place in 2005, in Abuja, Nigeria.
The ASLC is an event to promote intra-African cooperation in space science and technology to support Africa’s development.
