Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) has announced the appointments of Willy Chow as chief commercial officer (CCO) and Samuel Wong as chief financial officer (CFO).

“With the unprecedented growth that ABS has experienced since our inception, it is crucial that we augment our senior management team to prepare for our organisation’s upcoming expansion with the pending launches of ABS-2 in 2013 and with ABS-3A and ABS-2A in 2015,” said Tom Choi, chief executive officer of ABS.

“Willy Chow, who previously served as CFO, will be elevated to the newly created role as chief commercial officer. He will be leading strategic activities such as mergers and acquisitions and corporate development.

“Samuel Wong joins our executive team as our new CFO as well as a member of the board of directors. He brings an incredible amount of experience not only as a successful CFO of large and publicly listed companies, but also crucial experience in telecom and media as well as in emerging markets where ABS is concentrating its expansion plans. He will be heading the finance section as well as advising the executive team on the strategic direction of the company,” Tom Choi added.

In his new position, Chow will spearhead commercial activities and will work closely with the chief development officer on business development initiatives and with the chief financial officer on financial activities.

As the new chief financial officer, Samuel Wong will be responsible for the overall finance and accounting functions and will be working closely with other department heads to drive efficiency and create shareholder value.    Prior to joining ABS, Wong worked as CFO and EVP at the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, as finance director at Hutchison Port Holdings and CFO at i-Cable Communications.  He is a chartered accountant and holds an MBA from the University of British Columbia and a B.Com from the University of Toronto.
