Astrium Services’ XRACER wins “Best of IBC 2012” award

Astrium Services’ DSNG System “XRACER” has been announced a winner of the “Best of IBC 2012” award.

Among the thousands of products exhibited by 1,400 exhibitors, the “Best of IBC” prize is reportedly awarded to a selection of the most interesting innovations, especially those that make broadcasters lives easier, cheaper and more efficient.

The XRACER DSNG system is an ND SatCom product, based on the VW Amarok vehicle and allows dual transmissions through live video uplinks on the move, paired with a Skyray Compact antenna for static set ups. The solution reportedly allows both video data and location coordinates to be transmitted while driving, even during speeds of up to 120 km/h, the company claims.

After reaching the destination of interest the Skyray compact antenna system is reportedly available, using automatic pointing, for transmissions of the broadcasting content. A tablet-pc app allows the crew to operate the XRACER remotely.

“We are very happy to have created a solution that makes the news reporter’s job easier and faster. I am sure that the design and handling of the integrated system as well as the driver’s comfort leave little more to desire. And on top of that, it is just a really stylish vehicle”, says Axel Daiber, Head of ND SatCom’s International Sales and Marketing.
