AT&T has joined forces with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Amazon Leo to accelerate the modernisation of the United States’ connectivity infrastructure and drive the next phase of cloud-powered innovation for businesses nationwide. Building on their long-standing collaboration, the companies aim to combine AT&T’s extensive fibre network with AWS’s cloud, security, performance and artificial intelligence capabilities to deliver a more resilient and future-ready connectivity ecosystem.
As part of the initiative, AT&T will migrate workloads from several existing on-premises systems to AWS Outposts, AWS’s managed hybrid cloud offering, to speed up its internal transformation and enhance operational efficiency. With support from AWS Professional Services, AT&T is also using Amazon Q Developer and other AWS agentic services to accelerate the migration of network service enablement to AWS. The move is expected to strengthen AT&T’s resilience through improved infrastructure management and faster modernisation of its business support systems.
To further reinforce AWS’s cloud infrastructure, AT&T will connect AWS data centre locations using high-capacity fibre, enabling AWS to continue scaling its secure and high-performance cloud services for customers developing and deploying advanced AI applications.
The collaboration also extends to Amazon Leo, Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network, which will provide internet connectivity services to AT&T. This will allow AT&T to expand its reach and deliver fixed broadband services to business customers in areas where terrestrial connectivity options are limited.
Shawn Hakl, Snior Vice President, Product, AT&T Business, said: “This collaboration with AWS marks a pivotal step forward in shaping the future of connectivity in the United States. Fiber is the foundation of that future – it delivers the speed, capacity, and reliability that modern networks demand. By pairing our expanding fiber infrastructure with AWS’s cloud capabilities, and through our collaboration to deliver the infrastructure of the future by connecting data centers, we’re creating a more resilient, scalable, and intelligent connectivity ecosystem. AT&T provides customers with reliable, high-speed connectivity wherever they need it.”
Jan Hofmeyr, Vice President, Telecommunications at AWS, added: “AWS is working with AT&T to advance their goal of expanding connectivity across the United States. AT&T gains access to AWS’s cloud capabilities and AI tools to accelerate their infrastructure modernization, while AWS benefits from AT&T’s expertise in high-capacity fiber networking. By combining AT&T’s leadership in advanced fiber networking with AWS’s cloud and AI capabilities, we’re creating new opportunities to deliver innovative services to customers nationwide.”
AT&T and AWS plan to share further details on their collaboration at Mobile World Congress 2026, where AWS will demonstrate how AT&T is accelerating infrastructure modernisation using AWS Outposts and AI-driven solutions, including generative AI-powered automation tools and AWS Transform.
