Blues has introduced Notecard for Skylo, a new connectivity module that integrates satellite, cellular and WiFi capabilities into a single solution without requiring satellite subscriptions or long-term commitments.
The module offers automatic failover across three Radio Access Technologies (RATs), including Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) satellite connectivity powered by Skylo, narrowband cellular networks and WiFi.
Notecard for Skylo is designed to extend cloud connectivity with multi-network failover to narrowband-connected devices. Targeting sectors such as transportation and logistics, energy and commercial equipment, the solution allows developers to prototype connected products more quickly while enabling businesses to deploy large-scale narrowband IoT solutions at a lower total cost. For example, logistics assets can rely on WiFi connectivity while inside depots, switch to cellular networks while in transit, and automatically transition to satellite connectivity in remote locations, with the module managing the network switching.
Traditional satellite IoT systems often require a dedicated satellite module along with monthly subscriptions and contractual commitments. According to Blues, Notecard for Skylo removes these requirements by combining connectivity options within a single module and offering pay-as-you-go satellite usage. This approach eliminates the need for additional hardware and provides more flexible pricing for businesses.
The multi-RAT design ensures reliable device communication by automatically switching to backup networks when a primary connection becomes unavailable. In addition to the cellular connectivity available across the Notecard product line, the new module includes satellite uplink and downlink capabilities, allowing devices to remain connected even outside cellular coverage areas. For organisations currently using narrowband networks, the module introduces satellite failover functionality, while customers requiring midband or wideband LTE connectivity can continue using the Starnote accessory.
Brandon Satrom, SVP of Product & Experience at Blues, said: “Two years ago, Blues and Skylo teamed up to launch Starnote for Skylo, an add-on to our flagship Notecard that brought satellite connectivity to our customers. As adoption grew, it became clear that some of our customers wanted a single-module solution for seamless WiFi-to-cellular-to-satellite failover. In response, Blues and Skylo collaborated once again; developing Notecard for Skylo to deliver the simplicity, affordability, and innovation customers expect from Blues.”
Vijay Krishnan, VP of Strategic Partnerships at Skylo, added: “Our partnership with Blues continues to raise the bar for what’s possible in NTN connectivity. Notecard for Skylo makes reliable, standards-based satellite connectivity accessible to more industries and device types than ever before. As businesses look to scale critical operations in areas where coverage is unpredictable, this integrated module provides the resilience, reach and reliability they can trust, backed by a global NTN network built for real-world performance.”
