China completes assembly and testing of EgyptSat 2 satellite

A $92m grant provided by China to fund two projects in Egypt in February 2022 allowed the satellite to be built.

China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) has completed the assembly and testing of Egypt’s remote sensing satellite MisrSat 2.

Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, witnessed the completion ceremony of the assembly and testing of the satellite.

The event was also attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Cairo, Liqiang Liu, CEO of Egyptian Space Agency, Sherif Sedky, along with a group of representatives of China and Egypt.

As part of the Chinese grant resources provided to Egypt, Al-Mashat noted that the Satellite Assembly, Integration, and Testing Center and EgyptSat 2 satellite are among the most important projects being implemented. The two projects are being implemented with two grants worth $92m.

MisrSat 2, also called EgyptSat 2, will take images of Egyptian soil to help preserve the environment and serve research purposes.

Egypt is the first country in the world to implement a joint satellite manufacturing programme with China.
