Ethiopia has become one another of the several African nations trying to realise its space ambitions. The country’s officials have announced that Ethiopia will launch its first ever satellite next month.
The satellite was built in China and will be launched from a site there.
Commenting on the upcoming launch, Ethiopia’s Innovation and Technology Minister Getahun Mekuria told reporters that the satellite will be used for agricultural, mining, environmental protection and earth observatory purposes.
Further, Mekuria said that Ethiopian engineers took part in the satellite’s construction.
A control centre has been set up on the outskirts of the country’s capital city, Addis Ababa.
