GeeSpace expands satellite partnerships in Algeria and Morocco

The agreements aim to enhance satellite capabilities, strengthen digital infrastructure, and advance the deployment of LEO satellite technology across North Africa.

GeeSpace, a subsidiary of Geely Holding Group, has strengthened its presence in Africa’s satellite sector through new strategic partnerships in Algeria and Morocco aimed at expanding low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite capabilities and advancing digital infrastructure across North Africa.

In December 2025, the company signed a cooperation agreement with partners in Algeria to support the development of satellite Internet of Things (IoT) services, LEO satellite manufacturing and broader technological development. One of the key agreements was concluded with Algérien Télécom Satellite, where its director-general Toufik Hentabli and GeeSpace CEO Wang Yang agreed to collaborate on establishing the commercial and operational framework for a satellite IoT investment and deployment project in the country.

The project is expected to be implemented in phases, with the possibility of expanding into other African markets as the initiative develops. The partnership aligns with Algeria’s wider strategy to accelerate digital transformation by strengthening connectivity and supporting modernisation in sectors such as industry, agriculture and logistics through satellite-enabled IoT solutions.

A separate agreement was also signed between Algeria Space Agency and GeeSpace to expand cooperation in the production of low-Earth orbit satellites. The collaboration is expected to promote technical knowledge exchange and support the development of satellite manufacturing capabilities in Algeria. Reports suggest the initiative could eventually lead to the creation of a satellite manufacturing facility along with a research and applications centre, helping to establish a domestic aerospace ecosystem while developing local technical expertise.

The partnerships form part of Algeria’s broader ambition to enhance its national space capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign satellite technologies. They could also enable new satellite-based services in areas such as telecommunications, infrastructure monitoring and logistics management.

Meanwhile, in Morocco, GeeSpace has signed a memorandum of understanding with Soremar Group in Casablanca to support the rollout of its GEESATCOM satellite communication services. The agreement focuses on commercialising GeeSpace’s LEO satellite network and expanding its applications across Morocco and the wider North African region.

Soremar, which operates in Morocco’s maritime and satellite communications sectors, will contribute its market knowledge and operational capabilities to support the deployment. Both companies plan to collaborate on constellation system testing, market expansion and application development across industries including transportation, energy and agriculture, supporting Morocco’s ongoing digital transformation efforts.
