Intelsat S.A., a provider of satellite services, has appointed Grant Marais as Regional Vice President of Africa Sales, effective January 3, 2013.
Marais will be responsible for supporting the growth of Intelsat’s customers in the region, which includes telecommunications and wireless operators, network services providers, and DTH platform operators and broadcasters. Intelsat provides these customers with communications infrastructure, including 23 satellites serving the region, and the Intelsat Epic high throughput satellite platform, which is expected to launch in 2015.
“With his many years of experience in Africa, Grant understands what our customers across the continent require to grow and be successful,” said Kurt Riegelman, Intelsat’s Senior Vice President of Global Sales. “The African communications landscape continues to be one of the most dynamic in the world, and I am confident that Grant will help Intelsat advance its presence in the region.”
Marais joins Intelsat from Nokia in Dubai, where he served as General Manager of Sales for the Pan-Middle East, Africa and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Previously at Nokia, he oversaw the company’s sales efforts in southern Africa and was based in Mozambique. Prior to that, he served in Uganda as Chief Commercial Officer for Simba Telecom.
Marais succeeds Jon Osler, who will join Intelsat’s Global Accounts team in Washington, D.C.
