IEC Telecom UAE has been awarded the CSR Initiative of the Year at the Oil & Gas Middle East Awards 2026, recognising its efforts to enhance working conditions in the offshore energy sector through advanced connectivity solutions.

The honour was granted for the company’s Welfare System, a purpose-built platform designed to support crew wellbeing by providing reliable and structured communication at sea, while allowing operators to manage connectivity in a controlled and sustainable manner.

As corporate social responsibility expectations continue to rise across the energy sector, reliable communication has emerged as a critical factor in supporting offshore personnel. However, delivering these services at scale remains a challenge, particularly as many crew members exceed allocated data limits despite monitoring usage. This has placed added pressure on operators, highlighting the limitations of traditional connectivity models and the need for more efficient solutions that balance workforce welfare with cost management.

IEC Telecom’s Welfare System addresses these challenges by integrating multiple satellite networks into a unified platform that delivers resilient and high-performance connectivity. Designed for offshore environments such as accommodation barges, platforms and support vessels, the system ensures fair access for multiple users while optimising bandwidth allocation through intelligent traffic management. This approach enables operators to implement large-scale welfare initiatives while maintaining visibility and control over usage and costs.

Alaa Alsadi, Commercial Vice President for the Energy sector, IEC Telecom UAE, commented: “The energy sector starts with its people. Ensuring that offshore personnel stay connected with their families and the world around them is no longer a luxury, it is a responsibility. With IEC Welfare, we provide a practical way for operators to give back to their workforce, while maintaining a sustainable and efficient framework for managing connectivity. This recognition reinforces our belief that technology can play a meaningful role in improving working conditions and supporting a more responsible and human-centric energy industry.”

Over the past year, the system has been deployed across several offshore sites and vessels, supporting more than 5,000 rotating users each month. The implementation has led to measurable improvements, including a reduction in troubleshooting time by up to 50% and an 85% drop in user complaints, alongside cost savings of up to 39% through optimised connectivity management.

The awards are organised by Oil & Gas Middle East, which brings together key stakeholders to recognise innovation and best practices across the sector. In addition to winning the CSR Initiative of the Year category, IEC Telecom’s Welfare System also received high commendation in the Innovation in Action category, further highlighting its impact on advancing connectivity and sustainability in the energy industry.
