Inmarsat appoints new CFO

Tony Bates to take up position from June this year

Inmarsat has announced that Tony Bates will be joining the company in June as an executive director and CFO.

Bates has been the group CFO of hibu, previously Yell Group, since November 2010. He played a leading role in the multi-billion dollar refinancing of the group’s capital structure and in the delivery of a lower cost operating model. Previously, Bates was the COO of business telecoms operator Colt Group SA, where he was responsible for the finance function from 2003 to 2009. He also held senior management positions at EMI Group.

“I am delighted to welcome Tony to the Inmarsat management team. Tony brings with him a wealth of operational and financial experience from a diverse range of businesses and industries, which will be of great benefit to Inmarsat as we continue to grow and develop our activities. I have no doubt that Tony will make an important contribution to the success of Inmarsat in the coming years and I very much look forward to working with him,” says Rupert Pearce, Inmarsat’s CEO.

Bates holds a BSc in Management Sciences at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
