The GVF Ka Roundtable Assembly 2012 on December 5 and 6 at the Strand Palace Hotel, London, UK, is designed, as per the organisers, to provide a platform for all interested parties to discuss the deployment of the technology, service and applications advantages brought to global communications by Ka-band.
Over the years, satellite systems have responded to the increasing demand for more spectrum, at lower cost, in order to facilitate expanded broadband access, by developing ever more efficient, powerful and cost-effective space and ground segments.
The Ka-band is of the utmost strategic importance to the satellite industry and most of the satellite operators around the world have either already developed, or are developing, Ka-band satellite systems. Many new Ka-band satellites have already been launched, and yet more satellite operators are developing Ka-band systems to be orbited within the next few years leading to the availability of Ka-band satellite systems globally.
The keynote address will be made by David Burr, Director, Product Development, O3B Networks, on the topic titled ‘The Time is Right for Ka band’. The topic will cover the following issues:
– Global data demand is growing faster than the industry is adding capacity at C and Ku-band. Ka-band provides the ability to keep up growth.
– C-band was well suited to legacy voice centric networks and broadcast but Ka-band is the band of choice for multiservice networks the Internet era. This transition requires adjustments to approaching network design.
– Challenges for Ka-band growth remain, both for market acceptance and technical
