The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the China National Space Administration (CNSA) for a future moon exploration mission.
The MoU was signed by Salem Humaid AlMarri, Director General of the MBRSC, and Wu Yanhua, Vice Administrator of CNSA, in the presence of Zhang Yiming, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the country, and Yousuf Hamad AlShaibani, Vice Chairman of the MBRSC.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which stipulates the centre’s collaboration with the CNSA in landing a Rover developed by MBRSC, for a future Moon Exploration mission, and this MoU marks the start of the first joint space project between China and the UAE, laying the groundwork for future opportunities for space cooperation between the two parties.
China plays an important role in moon exploration through their participation in many space projects, such as the “Change 5” mission, which landed over the “ocean of storms” on the moon’s surface in December 2020, collecting 1.73 kilograms of lunar samples and bringing them to Earth for study.
