NaiTel, the licensed telecommunications arm of Aqaba Digital Hub (ADH) in Jordan, and Telecom Egypt, one of the region’s major subsea cable operators, have announced the completion of the Coral Bridge subsea cable system, creating the first direct subsea connection between Egypt and Jordan in more than 25 years.
The new express cable, spanning 15 km, has landed in Taba on Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and extends across the Gulf of Aqaba before reaching its destination in Aqaba, Jordan. Equipped with 48 fiber pairs, Coral Bridge is designed to transport over 1 Petabit of data traffic, providing a high-capacity, low-latency link that supports the surging demand for data-intensive applications such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Its short length not only reduces latency but also significantly lowers data costs, enhancing efficiency for businesses and consumers alike.
On the Egyptian side, Coral Bridge marks the first telecommunications subsea system to land at Telecom Egypt’s newly established cable landing station in Taba, part of its expanding digital infrastructure in the Sinai Peninsula. In Jordan, the system connects directly to ADH’s Tier III carrier-neutral data center in Aqaba, bolstering redundancy, disaster recovery, and network resilience for enterprises and hyperscalers hosted within the facility.
By leveraging Egypt and Jordan’s strategic geographic locations, alongside Telecom Egypt’s extensive subsea ecosystem, Coral Bridge provides seamless onward connectivity linking Asia, Africa and Europe. The system strengthens regional resilience while enabling greater market access for local, regional, and international businesses.
Eyad Abu Khorma, Founder and CEO of Aqaba Digital Hub (ADH), said: “Coral Bridge is more than just a cable—it’s a strategic asset for the entire region. It lands at ADH’s carrier-neutral facility in Jordan, enhances regional market access, featuring one of MENA’s largest data centers. By enabling a direct digital bridge between Aqaba-Jordan and Sinai Peninsula-Egypt, we are strengthening regional resilience and opening new opportunities for high-performance infrastructure and sovereign connectivity.”
Mohamed Nasr, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Telecom Egypt, commented: “The strategic proximity between Taba and Aqaba creates a vital opportunity to establish a robust corridor for data connectivity across the Middle East and Europe. Through our collaboration with NaiTel, leveraging their carrier-neutral ecosystem in Aqaba via the Aqaba Digital Hub, the Coral Bridge subsea cable system will aggregate substantial regional traffic and channel it through Egypt’s diverse terrestrial routes to the Mediterranean Sea. This critical infrastructure is key to meeting the region’s growing data demands, supporting data center expansion, and enhancing the resilience of subsea cable networks in the region.”
Built to the highest technical and environmental standards, Coral Bridge also reflects a strong commitment to sustainability, balancing capacity and performance with environmental responsibility. The partnership between NaiTel/ADH and Telecom Egypt marks a milestone in regional digital infrastructure, setting the foundation for future cross-border initiatives across the Middle East and beyond.
