The Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) has announced that Neo Space Group has secured the permit to offer earth-observation (EO) platform services in Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to foster a supportive environment for the private sector to establish and expand EO services and emerging businesses, ultimately boosting the Kingdom’s gross domestic product (GDP) through the creation of value-added space products, according to a report by Saudi Gazette.
The permit allows Neo Space Group to set up and operate an electronic platform that collects and processes EO data from satellites. This includes capturing images of the Earth’s natural terrain, monitoring environmental pollution and tracking weather patterns.
Moreover, the platform will serve as a market and digital enabler, linking EO data providers with value-added service providers who develop and process data into advanced space programmes and products. This will allow public and private sector beneficiaries to access processed EO data for various applications, including agriculture, environmental monitoring, logistics and urban planning.
CST released the “Request for Permit to Provide EO Platform Services” document in April, inviting interested parties to apply by the July 7 deadline. After evaluating the submissions, CST selected Neo Space Group as the qualified applicant based on set evaluation criteria.
This EO platform initiative is part of CST’s broader efforts to promote space activities, attract investments in the space sector, and enhance Saudi Arabia’s global standing in the space industry.
