Newtec launches next generation broadcast satellite platform at NAB 2012

At NAB, Newtec organised a panel discussion on “Satellite Interference and Carrier ID” with industry leaders (Intelsat, SES, Eutelsat, DVB, sIRG, WBU-ISOG/RFI-EUI, ABC/Disney/RFI-EUI, CNN, Fox Networks).

Newtec has launched its next generation broadcast satellite modulator platform, which will reportedly play a vital role in satellite networks, deliver bandwidth efficiency performance among the best on the market, according to the manufacturer, and help broadcasting businesses evolve through ongoing market and technology transitions.

The Newtec M6100 Broadcast Satellite Modulator meets all of these challenges with various new and unique functionalities. Carrier-ID insertion is a new capability; a built-in MPEG transport stream analyser offers fast trouble shooting; the sub-second redundancy switchover times are industry-leading; SMPTE 2022 Forward Error Correction (FEC) facilitates remote headend deployment, and a lot more.

The company spokesman added that there are many innovations in Newtec’s new modulator that reportedly increase satellite transponder efficiency like the automated Equalink, Clean Channel Technology and the opportunistic data insertion, i.e. Multi Protocol Encapsulation (MPE). The increased efficiency, according to the manufacturer, can be used to either lower the yearly operational expenses, to launch more services in the same transponder space or to provide a better quality of service.

The M6100, as per the company spokesman, is built upon flexible and programmable technology, making it a future-proof building block capable of evolving any satellite network to carry next generation services to customers and consumers.

Scalable pay-as-you-grow licencing facilitates the launch of new services or last minute network design changes without rebuilding the entire network infrastructure. Migration from ASI to IP or IF to L-Band interfaces are also made possible using simple in-field installation of license keys.
