The O3b Gateway, located at the Perth International Telecommunications Centre (PITC) on the Western coast of Australia, was installed and reportedly completed all testing on schedule, stated Joseph Paciaroni, O3b’s Director Teleport Operations.
“With near perfect weather and a fantastic team on the ground in Perth, Western Australia, O3b’s third Control Gateway was installed and successfully completed all testing on schedule. The O3b Gateway, located at the Perth International Telecommunications Centre (PITC) on the Western coast of Australia, will serve as the third of four Control Gateways in support of the launch of the O3b constellation early next year.
“The three Viasat 7.3 meter Ka-band antennas were delivered to the site in early November and the install team went right to work assembling the many parts, installing the electronics, and performing system testing. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the construction crews and heavy machinery, the local Mob population (kangaroos) had “no worries” as they observed from a distance. The Perth Gateway will be remotely monitored and controlled by O3b’s Operations Center in Manassas, Virginia while the Installation Team moves on to the next installation in Lima, Peru at the start of the new year.”
