Thuraya Telecommunications Company announced the appointment of T. Sanford Jewett as their new vice president, marketing.

Jewett reportedly brings his expertise in international markets to Thuraya and will play, according to the company spokesman, a major role in leading the expansion of Thuraya’s global marketing strategies. Sanford has over 25 years of experience in the wireless, internet and satellite industries.  His experience includes an extensive focus on introducing technology companies into new markets.

Before joining Thuraya,  Jewett oversaw strategy and business development for the mobile services group at Time Warner Cable, reportedly the number two cable TV operator in the US market with over 15 million residential and business customers.

Over the years, he has held management positions with several leading communication service providers including America Online (AOL,) Skytel, Millicom International Cellular and Reliance WiMax World.

During the start-up of Iridium Satellite in the late 1990s, Jewett worked in the marketing department, where he led the development and global marketing of the Iridium satellite pager product.  More recently, Jewett ran Operations and Business Development for WorldCell, a US-based service provider serving US Government customers in the US, Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Jewett’s appointment follows two appointments to the board of directors earlier this year: Michael Butler, former president & chief operating officer of Inmarsat and Charles W. Moore, chief executive of Lockheed Martin Global ME.
