OQ Technology and o2 Telefónica join forces for global 5G IoT connectivity

Utilising OQ's 3GPP LEO constellation, o2 Telefónica facilitates 5G IoT connectivity for devices compliant with NB-IoT standards.

OQ Technology has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with o2 Telefónica, ushering in the advent of a new era in global IoT satellite connectivity.

Commencing in Q2 2024, o2 Telefónica will unveil global 5G roaming, facilitating the deployment of Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) solutions on a global scale. This collaboration empowers businesses with reliable IoT services, extending connectivity even to previously inaccessible areas.

OQ Technology’s satellite network seamlessly integrates with Telefónica IPX Cloud and Kite, o2 Telefónica’s acclaimed IoT connectivity management platform, providing business customers with real-time SIM card monitoring and control on a global scale.

In partnership with OQ Technology, o2 Telefónica introduces a hybrid mobile satellite connectivity service, delivering comprehensive global IoT network coverage. The service securely transmits data to customers, requiring only a Service-Level Agreement with o2 Telefónica.

Omar Qaise, Founder & CEO of OQ Technology, expressed delight at the historic milestone achieved through the partnership with Telefónica, enabling o2 Telefónica users to access 5G IoT roaming services on a global scale.

Nikolaos Kalivianakis, Director of Business Solutions at o2 Telefónica, highlighted the collaboration’s potential to enhance efficiency and productivity through OQ Technology’s global coverage and innovative satellite-based IoT connectivity.

Satellite connectivity unlocks IoT applications in areas where terrestrial networks face limitations. This includes connecting stationary IoT devices, such as agriculture sensors in remote areas, and facilitating IoT applications across the world’s oceans.

In early 2024, Telefónica’s Kite platform introduced “IoT Data Ready,” streamlining NB-IoT data processing and serving as a bridge to traditional IT systems.
