The State of Qatar, represented by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), took part in the second meeting of the Arab Working Group tasked with preparing for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26). The meeting was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on August 31, 2025, and was organised by the Arab League in cooperation with the ITU and the Kingdom’s Communications, Space, and Technology Commission.

The gathering brought together representatives from ICT bodies across Arab countries to coordinate positions and enhance the region’s role in advance of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, which will be hosted by Qatar in 2026. Discussions focused on aligning regional strategies within the framework of joint Arab cooperation to ensure a unified stance at this major international forum.

Participants reviewed the mandates of specialised working groups covering public policy and legal affairs, administrative and regulatory coordination, digital policy and internet governance, and strategic and financial planning. Among the approved nominations, Qatar’s Engineer Hussain Abdulla Salatt, Public Relations and Communication Manager at CRA, was elected Vice-Chair of the Arab Working Group preparing for PP-26, while Ms. Huda Ahmad Al-Korbi, International Relations Researcher at CRA, was named Vice-Chair of the Public Policy and Legal Affairs Working Group.

With PP-26 scheduled to be held in Doha in November 2026, further preparatory meetings will take place in the lead-up to the event. Qatar’s hosting of the conference underscores global confidence in its capacity to organise world-class gatherings and reaffirms its commitment to strengthening both regional and international collaboration in the ICT sector.

The ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, held every four years, serves as the organisation’s highest decision-making body. It sets general policies, strategic and financial frameworks for the upcoming cycle, and oversees elections for ITU leadership positions. Hosting this conference will represent a key milestone for Qatar, highlighting its growing role in shaping the future of global ICT and advancing international efforts toward sustainable development.
