Rocket Lab has completed its 65th Electron mission with the launch of an Earth-imaging satellite for real-time space-based intelligence company BlackSky. The mission, dubbed “Full Stream Ahead,” lifted off from Rocket Lab’s Launch Complex 1 in Mahia, New Zealand, and deployed a Gen-3 satellite into a 470-km circular orbit, further expanding BlackSky’s low Earth orbit constellation.

The Gen-3 satellite was released using Rocket Lab’s Motorised Lightband separation system, which has been a consistent component of every BlackSky mission launched on Electron. This launch marks the second of four scheduled missions this year by BlackSky aboard Electron rockets, and the tenth overall collaboration between the two companies since 2019, reinforcing Electron’s status as BlackSky’s preferred launch vehicle.

“Full Stream Ahead” came just 16 days after Rocket Lab’s previous Electron mission, demonstrating the company’s growing ability to deliver launches in rapid succession. With each launch achieving full mission success, Electron continues to solidify its reputation as one of the most reliable and frequently used orbital launch vehicles for small satellite missions globally.

Rocket Lab founder and CEO, Sir Peter Beck, said: “Another successful mission to add to Electron’s already stellar track record of providing reliable orbital access for constellation developers across the globe. We’re laser-focused on delivering an increasing cadence of regular and reliable dedicated access to space for small satellite operators with Electron, and looking forward to continuing to deploy BlackSky’s constellation with more Electron launches in the months to come.”

Brian O’Toole, BlackSky CEO, added: “With each successive launch BlackSky expands on-orbit capacity, introduces Gen-3 capabilities and furthers our ability to meet the demands of the most time-dominant missions. Our partnership with Rocket Lab has demonstrated exceptional agility in deploying capacity where and when our customers need it most.”

This launch for BlackSky will be Electron’s seventh successful mission of 2025, Rocket Lab’s 65th launch overall, and brings the total number of satellites delivered to space by Electron to 226.
