UAE’s President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a Federal Decree appointing Salem Butti Salem Al Qubaisi as Director-General of UAE Space Agency.
The decision comes as part of the UAE government’s efforts to promote the performance of government entities and achieve qualitative leaps in the flexibility of their structures and policies, update their strategies and enhance their preparations for the next fifty years.
The agency is the federal entity that oversees the space sector, including its development and regulation.
Al Qubaisi replaces Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, who has served as director-general of agency since its formation in 2014. He brings 20 years of experience in the fields of military aviation and defence, in both the public and private sectors.
Al Qubaisi, who previously worked for the Armed Forces, will lead the agency’s efforts to develop space sciences and advanced technologies, set up related regulations and policies, establish bilateral and multilateral international partnerships, and promote national capabilities.
Al Qubaisi holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering from California State University Sacramento, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington
Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Technology, is chairperson of the agency.
