Satcom Global and Intelsat have joined forces in a global agreement, aimed at propelling expansion and bolstering the global Ku-band network underpinning the AuraNow VSAT solution.
Vessels equipped with AuraNow will now enjoy the formidable synergy of Satcom Global’s bandwidth and contract flexibility, coupled with Intelsat’s expansive fleet of multi-layered, high-throughput satellites (HTS), constituting the world’s largest and most advanced satellite fleet and connectivity infrastructure. This new partnership significantly broadens the AuraNow global footprint, providing greater access to HTS assets. With the latest enhancements, AuraNow extends coverage to previously underserved regions, including the far south Indian Ocean, the western region of Panama, and the southeast Pacific. Moreover, this collaboration doubles satellite assets and look angle options across east Asia, as well as the north and mid-Atlantic.
Satcom Global initially introduced Aura VSAT in 2016, delivering a global, high-speed VSAT service. The global maritime satellite communications provider has consistently endeavored to enhance and extend coverage, integrating new assets to ensure maritime customers receive optimal service worldwide. In 2020, AuraNow was launched, revolutionizing the maritime VSAT market by empowering customers to upgrade, downgrade, and suspend their Ku-band airtime seamlessly via an easy-to-use portal.
Alex Stewart, COO of Satcom Global, said: “Intelsat has demonstrated remarkable drive and energy in building a robust network to support AuraNow. It represents the best and most expansive maritime Ku-band VSAT network available today. Operational, regulatory, guest, and crew requirements are increasingly pressuring ship operators to provide reliable and unlimited connectivity throughout a vessel’s journey. Access to high-speed global connectivity at sea is now essential, and with Intelsat’s global network, our customers will consistently access our groundbreaking flexible connectivity wherever and whenever they need it.”
The new partnership integrates the benefits of Intelsat FlexMaritime service into Satcom Global’s offering, providing always-on enterprise-grade connectivity to vessels worldwide. Designed for mobility with a focus on the maritime sector, FlexMaritime offers a reliable, secure, high-speed global Ku-band service tailored for vessels of all sizes, even when travel routes or bandwidth demands shift unexpectedly. Intelsat’s modern fleet of geostationary satellites integrates layers of Ku-band HTS spot beams to deliver bandwidth density to high-traffic maritime routes, supplemented by wide-beam satellite capacity for added resiliency and redundancy.
“Intelsat welcomes Satcom Global as a valued FlexMaritime solution partner,” added Intelsat Vice President and General Manager Mobility Bilal Hamoui. “We look forward to collaborating with Satcom Global to deliver ‘always-on’ connectivity to more ship owners and operators worldwide, offering customized packages based on their specific connectivity requirements.”
