The Saudi Space Agency has unveiled its new space mission design centre in a launch event attended by CEO Dr Mohammed Altamimi, Deputy CEO Dr Valanathan Munsami and representatives from various local and international organisations, according to a report by Saudi Press Agency.

The establishment of the Concurrent Design Facility (CDF) is part of the agency’s broader strategy to elevate Saudi Arabia’s role in space research and to build national expertise in this critical field. The centre aims to enhance the planning and execution of space missions by employing concurrent engineering principles and advanced analysis and simulation techniques. This approach is expected to cut the time needed for feasibility studies by up to 75% and reduce the cost of designing space systems by up to 50%.

The Saudi Space Agency has adopted the Integrated Mission Lifecycle (IML) methodology to guide its projects and programmes. This framework is designed to achieve operational excellence, improve efficiency, and provide a standardised approach to managing complex engineering projects. The IML will also facilitate better coordination and establish best practices in the field.

Additionally, the agency is focused on strengthening its partnerships with regional and international entities to support and expand space activities in Saudi Arabia. The goal is to foster growth in the space economy, promote interest in space missions and contribute to sustainable development.
