SES Techcom Services recognised at Better Satellite World Awards

SSPI-AwardSES Techcom Services received an award for emergency.lu, which has been recognised at the Better Satellite World Awards, hosted by the Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI).

The awards, which took place in London’s Reform Club, celebrate established companies and disruptive innovators who have made the world a more prosperous, healthier, better-educated, more sustainable and an inclusive place. Recipients of the Better Satellite World Awards were evaluated by SSPI in four categories of impact: global or regional impact; distribution of knowledge for the improvement of living standards; governance and commerce; and communication and humanity. The ceremony took place on Friday, December 4th.

emergency.lu, a public-private partnership between the Luxembourg government and three Luxembourg-based companies – SES Techcom Services, HITEC Luxembourg and Luxembourg Air Ambulance, is a global, VSAT-based, multi-layer platform designed to fill the communications gap at the onset of large-scale disasters, providing support to international efforts to cope with devastating events. This year, the solution has been deployed in Nepal and Vanuatu, and earlier in Mali, the Philippines, South Sudan, Venezuela, and Ebola-affected countries in West Africa. The solution provides connectivity and applications for humanitarian interventions via dedicated SES satellite capacity and communication infrastructure.

“We are delighted to have been recognised by SSPI for such a prestigious honour,” said Alan Kuresevic, Vice President Engineering at SES Techcom Services, who was present at the event to receive the prize. “By assisting relief efforts for some of the most catastrophic natural and human made disasters of recent times, the contributions made by emergency.lu and SES have been – quite literally – life saving. It gives us great pride to have been recognised by the SSPI and its Better Satellite World Award campaign.”
