Juniper Networks, a global player in AI-native and secure networking, has announced that Saudi Telecom Company (stc) is expanding its 5G services to 75 cities and regions. By deploying Juniper’s 400G routers in its Converged Supercore network and key data centres, stc is boosting network capacity, performance, and scale while optimizing energy efficiency. This move aligns with the company’s digital transformation strategy and commitment to sustainability.
To support its 5G expansion, stc needed to enhance the capacity of its core network and data centers, which power mobile, broadband, residential and business services. The company aimed to build a scalable, high-performance infrastructure that simplifies operations as network demands grow. A key priority was adopting energy-efficient technology, leading to the deployment of a 400G routing solution that optimises power consumption and space usage.
Stc has integrated Juniper Networks PTX10008 Packet Transport Routers into its Converged Supercore network, providing 115.2 Tbps capacity within a compact footprint and future-proofing the network with 800G readiness. This upgrade results in a 1,340% increase in 100G capacity and an 864-port boost in 400G capacity per rack space, while reducing power consumption by 43% through advanced silicon innovation.
In addition, stc’s data centres have been modernised with Juniper Networks MX10008 Universal Routers, delivering 76.8 Tbps capacity and enabling a 384-port boost in 400G capacity per site. These enhancements also achieve a 90% reduction in physical space requirements and an 87% decrease in power consumption per gigabit compared to previous multi-layer network designs.
By integrating Juniper’s PTX and MX platforms, stc is accelerating automation to streamline operations. These platforms leverage gRPC services, OpenConfig, NETCONF/Yang, and native data models, enhancing flexibility and simplifying network management.
Bader Allhieb, Infrastructure VP, stc, said: “stc already offers the fastest mobile experiences in Saudi Arabia. This expansion allows us to bring transformative 5G services to millions more people and businesses. With Juniper routing at the heart of our core network and key operational data centers, stc can continue to attract and retain mobile customers at scale while also reducing our carbon footprint and operational expenditure.
“We are also excited about the promise of Juniper’s 800GE PTX routers that embody sustainability and versatility, delivering superior performance and seamless user experience, reduced carbon footprint and operational cost advantages.”
Yarob Sakhnini, Sales VP META, Juniper Networks, added: “Greater access to 5G is crucial for accelerating Saudi Arabia’s rapid digital transformation as it works towards Vision 2030 and beyond, while also supporting the growth of enterprises across the country. Juniper Networks provides stc with the solid foundation to transform its services and significantly advance end-user experiences.”
