Zimbabwe’s space programme prioritised under 100-days projects

By establishing a dynamic space programme in conjunction with universities, Zimbabwe hopes to better address issues within agriculture, disease and infrastructure management.

Zimbabwe is embarking on the implementation of Space Science programmes under the 100 days priority projects approved by Cabinet for immediate implementation, according to a report in Bulawayo online news daily.

Speaking to press at the last post-Cabinet briefing of the year, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the government is commencing implementation of Space Science programmes through the Higher and Tertiary Education Science and Technology Development ministry to foster scientific research in the country.

“The Higher and Tertiary Education Science and Technology Development ministry will embark on the implementation of Geospatial Aeronautical and Space Science Capacity Programmes. The Zimbabwe National Geospatial Space Agency board is currently being established while associated research programmes are already in progress,” Mutsvangwa is reported to have said.

Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency was established to help agriculture, disease surveillance and infrastructure management among others.

The programmes is looking to engage universities in the programme.
