Yahsat has signed a master service agreement with Astrium that aims to promote and lease military Ka-band capacity under the service brand YahSecure. The service agreement will target military end-users of several applications.
“This new agreement confirms YahSecure’s position as the first commercial satellite communication service to provide foreign governments and military forces with military Ka-band capacity, the optimum satellite communications band for government and military missions,” YahSat said in a company statement.
Yahsat’s second satellite, Y1B, that is slated to be launched in April 2012, will offer services to military and commercial consumers via high-speed commercial Ka multi-spot beam technology in 25 countries in the Middle East, Africa and South West Asia. It will also deliver the YahClick broadband internet service when fully operational.
