Quicklink will be supporting the charitable organisation, NSPCC and David Tait as he climbs Mount Everest for a fifth time and for the first time, perhaps even without oxygen. An investment banker by day, David is also a mountaineer. He was the first person in the world to successfully complete the North-South traverse of Mt. Everest and has been featured twice on the Discovery Channel’s TV series ‘Everest: Beyond the Limit’.
Safa Telecom will be providing the Thuraya IP satellite broadband terminals and in turn Thuraya will offer satellite airtime. When the adventure begins at the end of March this year, all footage will be broadcasted with the Quicklink Mac live and Thuraya IP to David Tait’s website www.davidtait.com. David explains what it means to him to have this support. “Both communication equipment and data allowance will allow me to not only communicate effectively with the NSPCC but also through to many media organisations. This ability allows me to open the eyes of the world to the adventure and the fundamental reason that this is about awareness and change.”
The Mac Live software has reportedly been consistently evaluated as the Mac solution that provides the highest quality video and audio output even at the lowest bitrates. Quicklink’s return audio to be used at streaming rates as low as 16 kbps, reportedly allows the user to select a cost effective 256/16 kbps or 384/16 kbps streaming tariff from Thuraya. The Mac live software also boasts, the company claims, a simple user interface for fast setup and go, making it easier for the professional journalist, freelancer or even an adventurer in the most extreme conditions.
The NSPCC comments on the use of equipment chosen for the expedition: “The equipment and communications will provide us with regular contact and video updates from David during his climb and of course keep David in touch with his friends and family at home. Together we hope to raise over 1 million pounds.”
