Airbus Defence and Space Limited (Airbus) and Astroscale Limited, the UK arm of Astroscale Holdings Inc., have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore joint initiatives in in-orbit servicing and space debris removal. This partnership seeks to combine the expertise of both companies to tackle the increasing challenges of space sustainability and satellite longevity, with a particular focus on advancing the UK’s role in the in-orbit servicing and manufacturing industry, and fostering a circular economy in space.

The collaboration is centred on key areas such as space debris removal, in-orbit servicing, rendezvous and proximity operations, in-orbit space assembly and manufacturing and satellite refuelling and life extension. These efforts aim to develop innovative methods for identifying, capturing and removing space debris, maintaining and repairing satellites in orbit, enhancing satellite manoeuvring capabilities, and exploring in-space construction. Additionally, the partnership will focus on extending the lifespan of satellites through in-orbit refuelling, reducing the need for new launches and promoting a more sustainable space industry.

This strategic alliance highlights the commitment of both Airbus and Astroscale to lead innovation and sustainability in space operations, combining Airbus’s extensive experience in satellite manufacturing with Astroscale’s pioneering in-orbit servicing technologies to set new benchmarks for space safety and efficiency.
