The software upgrade 1.05 is available for no additional cost to more than 2,000 terminals and supports shipping’s early adopters of the newly launched Iridium Certus 700.
Cobham SATCOM, a provider of radio and satellite communications solutions, has announced the launch of its latest software upgrade for SAILOR 4300 L-Band, the first terminal in Cobham’s portfolio of Iridium Certus Connected range solutions.
The unveiling of software solution 1.05 follows the successful delivery of more than 2,000 SAILOR 4300 terminals within the first year of service and enables users to upgrade to the new Iridium Certus 700, which offers data speeds of up to 704 kbps.
Launched in 2018, SAILOR 4300 L-Band is a highly reliable link to the low-latency, upgraded Iridium satellite network, enabling Iridium Certus service users to optimise diverse operational applications. These operations include multi-user Internet/VPN, IoT and telemedicine, alongside regular usage including email, electronic forms/reporting and crew communication.
Cobham has worked with Iridium since 2015 to ensure ship owners and operators can fully leverage the power of Iridium Certus services. In addition to enabling faster data speeds, Cobham’s 1.05 upgrade features new BCX software version 2.4.2, which supports the new Iridium Certus 700 service.
Commenting on the upgrade, Anders Tue Olsen, Business Manager, L-Band at Cobham SATCOM, said: “We are pleased to support early adopters of the Iridium Certus 700 service with this new software upgrade to SAILOR 4300 L-Band. One year into service, this latest edition to the SAILOR range has performed extremely well across more than 2,000 terminals and will be further strengthened with the upgrade to data speeds of 704 kbps. All SAILOR 4300 L-Band terminals can be instantly upgraded at no additional cost through a simple process accessible via our Cobham SATCOM SYNC portal. To mark the occasion we are offering all our customers the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty at a favourable price until the end of June. We would urge any customers needing further information to get in touch.”
Bryan Hartin, Executive VP Sales & Marketing at Iridium, remarked: “We’re extremely excited about the commercial launch of Iridium Certus 700 this week following many months of anticipation from our end-users and partners. As the only maritime L-band service offering truly global coverage with industry-leading broadband speeds, Iridium Certus has a key role to play in enabling the maritime industry to realise the full and far-reaching benefits of digitalisation at sea. These latest speed increases, which can be realised on thousands of vessels thanks to Cobham’s software upgrade, will only hasten this critical transformation.”
