Gilat Satellite Networks has announced its successful bid for a multimillion-dollar defence satellite connectivity project. The project will see the deployment of Gilat’s cutting-edge SkyEdge IV platform and Taurus-M modems to enhance satellite communication capabilities for a prominent governmental defence organisation.
The SkyEdge IV platform represents Gilat’s latest generation multi-service technology, designed to seamlessly integrate with multi-orbit (GEO, MEO, and LEO) software-defined satellite constellations. With support for cloud infrastructure and an Elastix-Access Scheme, SkyEdge IV is well-equipped to meet current and future satellite connectivity requirements, offering the flexibility to handle large and scalable networks.
The SkyEdge IV Taurus-M, a satellite modem within the project, boasts a low SWAP (Size, Weight, and Power) profile, making it suitable for deployment in armoured fighting vehicles and man-pack scenarios. Tailored for military and government applications and compliant with MIL-STD-810 standards, this ruggedised modem ensures fast deployment, and easy operation, and provides highly available, high-speed satellite communications for both stationary and on-the-move (SOTM) operations.
Commenting on the deal, Ori Naor, Gilat’s Vice President of Sales and Business Development for Defense, said: “Gilat has identified the defence segment as one of its main growth engines and this programme is one of many Gilat is targeting with its leading product portfolio aimed at this segment. Gilat’s SkyEdge IV platform and Taurus-M modems are addressing the market demands for rugged, high-performance equipment for mobile satellite communications. The SkyEdge IV platform puts the customer at the forefront of satellite communications by enabling the utilisation of multi-orbit constellations, giving its military end users the high performance, reliability, and secured communication services they need for boundless communications.”
