MTN and Ericsson launch 5G services in Nigeria

Ericsson and MTN Nigeria have successfully launched 5G services across some parts of Lagos.

The first phase of the launch covers certain parts of Lagos and Nigeria where Ericsson’s 5G technology – which includes 5G Radio Access Network & NSA Packet Core – will accelerate the development and digitalisation of key sectors such as education, healthcare and manufacturing. The new launch will also enable consumers and enterprises in Nigeria “to provide 5G applications that will unlock the potential of the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence (AI), smart cities and immersive communication over augmented (AR) and virtual reality (VR) for consumers.”

With Ericsson Radio System, MTN will provide advanced Mobile broadband & fixed wireless access services which will unlock a range of new opportunities in the Enterprise domain.

Commenting on the development, Mohammed Rufai, Chief Technical Officer, MTN Nigeria, said: “5G will revolutionise the way we live and communicate across industries.
